"FIVE STARS!!! WOW! This book is incredible. I am sitting here open mouthed while writing this review. From the surprising opening scene, to the manic journal entries, the media interview with the husband, the court case... It goes on - each critical "part" is told through a different POV which makes this a fast paced thriller like no other. (And I read many fast paced thrillers.) I loved being in our victim - Loren's mind from the beginning. Understanding the relationship between her and her husband and how it unfolded, the games that were played from the start. The naivety, the attraction, the trust... the fact you never really know the husband - David. Much like her, his reveal is very slow.... there's a detachment to his character which is compelling but eerie. Her family a part of her but somehow not. Her life never planned or expected, but embraced. Then the incredible unveiling that happens in the TV interview. (I won't spoil it, but please if you feel it's a little predictable - hang on, Part 3 on blows you away.) The writing was fabulous with both a fast tempo and an easy tone. The ending completely floored me and I know it's clichéd but I did not see it coming. Ultimately, the title "The one who got away" was perfect for so many aspects of the book, the plot and these complex characters. As you close the last page, it almost becomes a mantra. I repeat - Wow! 5+ Stars. Highly addictive - I read it in one sitting."
