Description
This is an auction for PORTRAIT OF FRANCES HODGKINS by E H McCormick.
"An illustrated biography of one of the most remarkable painters of New Zealand. Described by one critic as "one of the most remarkable painters of our own or any other country", Frances Hodgkins (1869-1947) had a long and venturesome career. This is an account of the artist's life."

She was highly considered among British avant-garde society and by the later stages of her career was known as a key figure in British Modernism. When she died she was regarded as one of Britain’s leading artists. In 1948 Myfanwy Evans (later Piper) wrote a study entitled Frances Hodgkins, as part of the 'Penguin Modern Painters' series. Frances Hodgkins is most admired for the freely painted works of her later life..."
