John Gully, 1819-1888 was a major colonial water-colour artist whose paintings have become part of NZ’s art heritage. This volume, an illustrated biography, has been compiled by his great-great-grandson, John Sidney Gully. In addition to the personal details the volume includes a comprehensive catalogue of all known works by John Gully.

There is a chapter on the methods and techniques of John Gully and an essay evaluating his work.
