In an adventurous career with the Royal Marines and the NZ Regular Force, he did his share of sea time, was in Turkey during the confrontation with Kemal Pasha 1922-23, spent a period with the NZ Division of the Royal Navy, and during the 1939-45 war, was involved in the Defence of Britain, and the invasions of Sicily and Normandy."
