A Noble Chance by Capt Maurice McGreal

Paperback, revised edition 1998, 200pages, very good condition
Book one: The Days of the Sword
Book Two: Swords to Ploughshares
Book Three: Keels to Wheels

This is an account of the working life of one of the thousands of young men who were caught up in the tide of war and whose lives were changed forever. The author might well have retired as a much respected teacher, no doubt recalled with affection by the scores of people he would have taught in the course of his teaching career. Instead, the call to serve his country changed his profession from teacher to pilot and took him to the other side of the world. As a young man he lost many friends who failed to return from bombing operations whilst he, through a quirk of fate, lived to later serve in the great flying boats of the era. Whilst serving in one of those aircraft he was fortunate to escape with his life.

This story, which encompasses the exciting days of the transition from war to peace in the Pacific; the air transport routes and the aircraft which flew them- from the DC3 to the V747; and the development of the New Zealand Civil Aviation Division, deserves to be told...
