This autobiography tells of Francis Bennett, born in Canterbury, his country childhood, his time at medical school in Dunedin, and his uncertain beginning as a general practitioner during the Depression on the mining fields of the West Coast. Later, he was employed by the Canterbury Hospital Board for over forty years. Dr Bennett served in both World Wars in WWII in command of a hospital ship involved in the rescue of POWs from Japanese internment camps. He is well-known for his contributions to obstetric research and with the elderly)
