'One Man's Odyssey' autobiography by former Pahiatua Polish child Jozef Jagiello.

Reverse cover blurb reads:

"During the Second World War, the Russian Army invaded Poland, forcing thousands of Poles into Siberian Labour Camps. My grandmother, parents and I were among them. My family did not survive these times and I became one of the thousands of wartime orphans.
Survivors liberated from the camps became refugees. American troops became our protectors and with the aid of the Red Cross, we made the perilous journey to the harbour city of Teheran, Persia (Iran). Here my people were being shipped to other countries willing to adopt the disenfranchised.
Seven hundred children, including myself, were allocated to go to New Zealand. When we discovered that it was a couple of islands on the other side of the world, there were many tears. It was so far away and we had no idea what the journey would be like. We had never seen a ship before and the thought of travelling on the ocean was frightening. With a few meagre possessions we boarded for a new life.
'One Man's Odyssey' tells of my life from the War until 1998, when I finally made the journey back to the country of my birth. During the writing of this book I discovered much about myself. I have been able to resolve many of my past disappointments, to learn to be proud of my achievements, and to find contentment in what I have now. As I grow older I realise how much I owe to New Zealand in accepting me, and adopting me as a citizen. These are my memories that I share with you …. Jozef."
