Description
In the 1860's a young French Nun, Suzanne Aubert arrived in NZ to do missionary work with young Maori women. She was to work tirelessly with Maori, the sick, the needy and the poor until she died in 1926. She is best remembered for her work at Jerusalem on the Wanganiu River where she established a self-supporting community, producing a text book on Maori conversations. Later, on moving to Wellington, she worked with the poor slum dwellers there, without regard for their beliefs or race. In 1913 she travelled to Rome and was delayed there until the end of WWI. Back in Wellington she established a training hospital for nurses. This is a fine biography of a remarkable woman
