Description
British-born Whangarei artist Digby Graham spent a lifetime painting orchids, many of which are now rare & endangered. This book is based on 37 superb Graham paintings, all botanically accurate in every way. They combine intricate detail with the artist's innate appreciation of form & colour. Each painting is accompanied by a matching species description by Ronald Roy, a leading expert on paphilopedilums, & by Digby Graham's line drawings of botanical detail. In addition, there are sections on history, classification & cultivation, as well as biographical notes on the artist, plus a complete list of species provided by Peter Taylor of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This book captures both the mystery & elegance of the orchid & the skill & precision of the artist's brush. Published by Reed in 1983, hardcover, 109 pages. In excellent condition except for couple of tears at back dust jacket which have been repaired. Size 37.5cm tall x 27cm wide x 1cm deep.
