'Wellington Prospect. Survey of a City 1840-1970' - Edited by N.L. McLeod and B.H. Farland. Editorial Adviser: S.H. Hashmi. Illustrations by Rodger Harrison

Hicks Smith & Sons Limited, Wellington 1970, hardcover, 231pp. Dustjacket & book in good condition.

'One hundred years ago, on 28 September 1870, the first meeting was held of the Wellington Borough Council. This book records a century's progress in Wellington, and the achievements of its citizens in various spheres.
Wellington Prospect however, is more than the history of the past century. It delves deep into the past, with Professor Beaglehole writing of the difficulties Captain Cook encountered when he was in the strait; with Mrs de Vries recording problems of the first surveyors. It also considers many aspects of the current scene and in so doing it offers a glance at the future.
The illustrations are by Rodger Harrison, well known Wellington artist who has won the Kelliher Art Competition on two occasions. His drawings capture the moments of the past and of the present, and fully complement the text.
Norman McLeod and Bruce Farland, the Editors, are Wellingtonians, born and bred, and have gathered together Wellington's leading citizens to contribute to the publication.' (From the Dustjacket) Please click here to ask a question
