The Writings of Shin'Ichi Suzuki Where Love is Deep

Shin'Ichi Suzuki explains the philosophy and method of Talent Education, the theory and practice of the Suzuki method. Richly illustrated with practical examples.

Amazon review by Crystal Eitle:

"This book is a good introduction to the philosphy of Shinichi Suzuki, founder of the Suzuki method for violin teaching. Suzuki's genius was that he recognized the potential inherent in EVERY human being. As a young man, he was astonished by the realization that every Japanese child, by the age of five or six, could speak Japanese fluently. He questioned why no one else had been struck by this. What if children were taught to play violin the same way they learned their mother tongue?
Suzuki's aim was not to turn out professional musicians, but to use music as a way of fostering "fine human beings". By listening to and playing the works of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, a fine musical sensibility and a "beautiful heart" could be cultivated in the very young.
A few key points are emphasized repeatedly in this book: what we call "talent" is not inborn but rather can be fostered; parents must treat their children with respect ("talk to your child as if it is someone else's"); players must learn to listen and hear with their hearts as well as their ears - we must seek to produce musicians, not typists. Also, what we practice on a daily basis, good or bad, is what we learn. The book also contains practical advice on a few key matters of violin instruction."
