I Have Planted. A Biography of Alfred Nesbit Brown. Noeline V Hall. 1981 1st edition. Dunmore Press, Palmerston North
Alfred Brown, and his first wife, came to NZ with the Church Missionary Society, arriving in 1829, and he worked at Paihia, Matamata and Tauranga until his death in 1884
His first work was teaching the sons of Missionaries in Northland. After making journeys with Henry Williams and coming into more contact with the Maori people he moved into Missionary work amongst them himself. Although he left behind many letters and a Journal, he was quite retrained in mentioning his private life and feelings, but some creep into this account
The book includes a lot of history, especially referring to other Missionaries and their families; incidents, and accounts of events including the Battle of Gate Pa.
