Dick Scott grew up in the Manawatu. He studied agriculture at Massey College, then only ten years old; joined the Army, and later the Communist Party.
He became a sharemilker journalist, then a Publisher of his own works.
Today he is remembered as a Historian who researched and wrote books such as Ask that Mountain and The Parihaka Story; Seven Lives of Salt River, Northland; Fire on the Clay, Auckland; plus other including books about Pacific Island history

He tells of his experiences during the 1951 waterfront dispute and of his visits to Parihaka, journeys to the Pacific, and incidents with many well known NZ political, artistic, literary and other people
