Samuel Williams was the son of the very early Missionary Henry Williams. He tried to help the Maori people and help them in their adjustment to the coming of the European and their rush for land

He founded Te Aute College, Hawkes Bay and sponsored the Young Maori Party in a bid to encourage young Maori men to become leaders
He went on to become a successful farmer and businessman
