Description
For anyone interested in Queenstown & Wakatipu history, this is a must read. In the preface, author Alfred H Duncan explains:
‘In the following pages I have given an account of the first settlement of the Wakatipu Lake District, in New Zealand, a district so well known for the wealth of its gold fields, the grandeur of its scenery, and the salubrity of its climate. “
“This is not intended to be a history of the rise and progress of the district, but simply a short account of the wild, rough life which we pioneers had to lead in the early days.”
Duncan mixes stories, characters and incidents to provide a first-hand account of what it was like to live in the first white settlement of the Wakatipu district.
First published in 1888 – this is 1969 edition published by John McIndoe Ltd in Dunedin. The photo shows the actual book you’re bidding on.
This is part of a collection of Wakatipu books I’m selling this week, so please check out my other auctions for loads of bargains. I’m having a cleanout and I’m always happy to combine items to save you money on postage.
