Description
"...I have been profoundly touched by the news of the death of Michael Davies. I had the good fortune to meet him several times and I found him as a man of deep faith and ready to embrace suffering. Ever since the Council he put all his energy into the service of the Faith and left us important publications especially about the Sacred Liturgy...." Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, 09/11/04
This booklet should help explain why Pope Benedict XVI issued the document: "Summorum Pontificum" in 2007 to encourage the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass. (It allows all Priests to celebrate the Traditional Mass without needing to seek permission from their Bishop.)
In this booklet, Michael Davies reviews the results of the New Mass and concludes very firmly, that the Church must return to her ancient liturgy in order to reverse the liturgical shipwreck and destruction of faith currently underway. Quoting numerous authorities - Msgr. Klaus Gamber, Fr. J. Gelineau, Fr. Louis Bouyer, Cardinal Ottaviani, Cardinal John Heenan, Archbishop R. J. Dwyer, etc - he demonstrates that the New Mass is not a restyled Traditional Mass but constitutes a liturgical "revolution," that the Vatican II Fathers in no way authorized the destruction of the Roman Rite and that its results are a debacle of the first order.
He also shows that discussion of the New Mass does not constitute rebellion against infallibly defined faith or morals, but rather "the right of a faithful Catholic to express disagreement with a strictly 'prudential' decision of the Pope." (P.5). "Facts", he states, "cannot be loyal or disloyal, and the facts concerning the collapse in Mass attendance are, alas, only too true." (P.28).
Writing with "love for and loyalty to the Church" and "the utmost respect for the Holy Father", it is certain to interest, inform and challenge every Catholic who reads it.
