In 1963 Graham Clifford came to Russell to join the firm of A.E. Fuller and Sons Ltd as a launchmaster. In the first eight years he forged an enviable reputation as a successful gamefishing skipper, at the same time diversifying to include towing of barges of sheep, cattle, sand, shingle and houses - in short, all the work that Fullers used to do in "the good old days". In 1971 he became a full-time exursion skipper on the Cream Trip and Cape Brett cruises.
