Hardcover, 127 pages, illustrated
In good original condition, all pages clean.

An original copy of Fred Lanoue's famous water survival manual.

"Drownproofing is a simple water survival technique that is easy for anyone to learn. It was invented by Fred Lanoue, swimming coach at Georgia Institute of Technology from 1936 to 1964. Coach Lanoue believed that everyone should be able to survive in water and developed a simple technique that was easy to learn and did not depend on physical strength or intensive training.

With Drownproofing it is possible to survive almost indefinitely with minimal effort.

You don't even need to know how to swim!

During his time at the Tech, Fred personally taught his method to 20,000 students.

In 1963 he published the book "Drownproofing : a New Technique for Water Safety" that introduced the technique to countless others.

Fred Lanoue first taught the technique in 1940. His method was so successful that it gained national recognition, and Georgia Tech soon made it a requirement for graduation. The US Navy also adopted it as part of their standard training.

Once they had mastered the Drownproofing technique, students learned how to stay afloat with their wrists and ankles bound, swim 50 yards (46 m) underwater, and retrieve diving rings from the bottom of the pool using their teeth.

Lanoue published the book Drownproofing : a New Technique for Water Safety in 1963."
