Boats, Oars, and Rowing By R.D. Culler
That recreational rowing in traditional craft is making a strong comeback these days is evident all around us. This book is a guide to that world, with sections on choosing the right rowing boat for your needs; customizing your own oars, either by modifying a stock pair or building them from scratch; selecting oarlocks and accessories; and learning to row correctly. There is even a section on the double-paddle canoe.
Of special interest to craftsmen are the descriptions of oar-making tools and their use, wood stock for oars, and the designing and fitting of leathers. In addition to the study plans of rowing boats in the text, there is an appendix with nine designs by the author, including skiffs, a gig, and a double paddle canoe.
