Description
This is an auction for MY SIDE OF THE RIVER: TALES FROM A MARLBOROUGH VINEYARD, by Ted Reynolds.
"At the age of 60, Ted Reynolds turned his back on the Auckland "mouse race" and headed south to Marlborough, dreaming of a "happy old age tending a few vines". He bought 20 hectares in the Awatere Valley, with mountain views, a river boundary and the kind of stony, silty soil that is ideal for grapes. There he planted a vineyard, build a rammed-earth house and set about enjoying his new life. This reminiscence tells of the delights of rural life - the beauty of the landscape, the thrill of the first harvest, the warmth of the community. It also recounts the battles: with the river that threatens the lower terrace, with the birds that compete for the grapes and with the inevitable bureaucracy. In a series of anecdotes, this book is a picture of life in one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand. It is based on Ted Reynolds's column in the "New Zealand Herald", syndicated throughout the country."
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Ted Reynolds was born in Nelson and educated in Blenheim. A journalist, he was news editor at the New Zealand Herald for many years. On retiring in 1990, he moved to Marlborough.
