This is an auction for NOT WITH GUNS ALONE: HOW HANOI WON THE WAR, by Denis Warner. review:

"Published immediately after the war (in 1977), this is a highly readable and knowledgeable account of the fall of Saigon, an event fresh in Denis Warner's memory. He is particularly good when covering the military side. On the political side, he suggests that there are four villains in this drama: Hanoi and three in the United States - Congress, which cut off all spending after the so-called Paris "peace accords," the antiwar movement, and the media. The sole honest US politician, it seems, was Richard Nixon who had promised to stand with the Thieu government, but then the perfidious Congress refused to continue to fund the war. That Nixon might have known that after Paris the US largesse would come to an end is something Warner does not entertain. Warner also tries to rehabilitate the reputation of the South Vietnamese army. It is true that at times some units fought well, notably its 1st Division, but an occasional valiant stand will not win a war of thirty years’ duration. When crunch time arrived, the 1st Division and the rest of the army gave up two thirds of South Vietnam after a small battle that lasted less than two days. This was an army that had been trained and financed over more than twenty-five years; the first five under French tutelage, the rest under the Pentagon. In the process, the United States lost 59,000 men and spent vast sums of money, a major a factor in undermining the US economy. (Its downward slide may be traced back to that war.) Whatever the US spent on South Vietnam is not enough for Warner; he insists it deserved more."
