"Wearing Spurs" John Reith.
A 223 page hardbound book with dust-wrapper 1st published in 1966. This is the Book Club Edition.
The book is in good solid condition. Discolouration to spine. Some foxing to front edge. Very small owners initials to top right of 1st endpaper.
The dust-wrapper is "Fair. It has chipping & 2 1 cm tears. Discolouration to spine.

The part autobiography of Lord Reith - later the controversial head of the BBC - telling of his year at the front in World War 1 - 1914-1915. His commission in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) found him serving in World War I. He was struck in the cheek by a bullet in October 1915, (which is where this book stops) - at which time he was a Lieutenant, and transferred to the Royal Engineers. He later spent the next two years in the United States, supervising armament contracts, and became attracted to the country. He was promoted to Captain in 1917, before transferring to the Royal Marine Engineers in 1918 as a Major. He returned to the Royal Engineers as a Captain in 1919 and resigned his Territorial Army commission in 1921. In 1922 he was employed by the BBC Please click here to ask a question
