Miracle on the River Kwai By Ernest Gordon
Ernest Gordon was 24 was a captain in the 93rd Highlanders, caught trying to escape from Sumatra. These are his recollections and subsequent experiences in a Japanese POW camp. The horrors of the prison camps and railroad of death were so much worse than could be imagined. A story of heroism and self sacrifice for all.
Collins, 1963, 1st edition, hardback with green cloth boards with gilt titles on spine, with unclipped dust jacket, 254 pages, b&w photos.
The book is in very good used condition, binding is tight, corners still sharp, negligible shelf wear, no inscriptions, clean with some light spotting to first and last few pages. Front endpaper has been removed. Dust jacket unclipped but has some wear. Chips, nicks, creases and several small closed tears around all edges with small pieces missing at top and bottom of spine and fold ins. Scuffing to edges at spine and fold ins sellotape repair at top of spine.
Hard to find in NZ in any condition.
