Ross Smith, and art photographer, is Ngapuhi and here he shows young Maori in their Hokianga home environments. His aim was to show realities with visual art and the linkages between whenua, moana and Maori.

Commentaries on the authors photographic work, by Peter Hay Halpert, New York; and Ron Brownson, Curator Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki.


Part II of the book consists of a series of portraits of Hemi Tuwharerangi Paraha, introduced with a commentary by Brett Levine, Curator Dowse Art Museum.
