Anna was born Lorna Jenks in Taumarunui, and lived in Papatoetoe In 1954 when aged 16, after becoming involved in inner city Auckland art and alternative life, she stowed away aboard a ship bound for Sydney, living in King’s Cross. She became involved with a witch named Rosaleen Norton, met artists and musicians, played her violin in bars and restaurants, was arrested for vagrancy and other charges, went to prison, and was sent back to New Zealand
This is just one of the chapters in the life of Anna, a beloved bohemian, artist, writer, collector, self-professed witch and une femme extraordinaire, who died in Napier at the end of 2014
