Blue Cliffs
By A.E. Woodhouse

The Biography of a South Canterbury Sheep Station 1856-1970

This book uniquely charts the history of a great New Zealand sheep station.

Mrs A. E. Woodhouse is the grand-daughter of George Rhodes of the Levels, the first European settler in South Canterbury

In this book Mrs Woodhouse's qualities have come together to produce something unique - an accurate and absorbing station history, an informed insight into station life, a personal account of a well-known run holding family.

Blue Cliffs traces the taking up and development of the Hunters Hills property from
1856 to 1970. Because of Rhodes and Woodhouse diligence in keeping records their station is endowed with a large archive on which Mrs Woodhouse has been able to draw extensively.

This book is alive with strong, memorable people, with excitement and also tragedy, and perhaps above all else with a pervading sense of' tradition and continuity in the life of a great station over a period of nearly 120 years.
