MAUI COMES TO TOWN
A Bulletin for Schools by Amelia Batistich
Illustrated by Murray Grimsdale
Published by Department of Education Wellington 1975 43 pages
A story based on urban migration.
"Haere ra! Goodbye!" The migrants wae as the bus takes off. But they will not forget the old place. For a time the city might dazzle, Waimana might haze like a dream. But it will throb in the mind's secret places, rush back like a river in flood at the chance meeting with someone from home. But that did not comford the Kuia when she knew that yet another of her families was going away - with them Maui, Koro's grandson. "Aue!" she cried. "The city, the monster that eats up my children, taking these too." "It is for the children" Koro tells her. "Time will come and they will want to go anyway. It is better that they go with father and mother. Besides, the city has many different schools, and these children have clever minds and hands. They must have their chance to learn. There is not enough for all here." .....
In good condition, just the odd yellow mark on a few pages.
