Description
Life At The Oaks: Memories Raglan & Hamilton 1890-1912
Elsie Fitz-William
Soft cover, 72 pages, A5 size.
Pegasus Press. 1975 first edition.
Excellent condition
Elsie Fitz-William looks back to a time around the turn of the century when she was growing up as one of a family of 11 children – “Father’s cricket team” – in a rural NZ that has now vanished. She writes of a hard but happy lifestyle, when washday meant boiling the copper and a woman’s work was never done; and of simple never to be forgotten pleasures like real cream, picnics by the river, regatta day and holidays on the Coromandel Coast. She remembers those old and young, from posties to swagger who peopled her world.
Illustrated with a selection of historic B&W photographs
