1864-1964. By G W Graham & L J B Chapple. In Dust Jacket, First Edition 1965, Black and White Plates, folding map, plans, 221 Pages, Published by The Ellesmere County Council by the Caxton Press Christchurch.
A Near Fine Copy.
'Ellesmere, lying between the Selwyn and Rakaia Rivers on the Canterbury coast, is a district of rich alluvial land and wide, shallow lake abounding in waterfowl. This well written book, by two authors who have lived in the county and know it intimately, records the first hundred years in Ellesmere's history- its foundation, growth and development. It makes no claim to be a definitive history of the county, but it is a readable account of what has happened there in the last hundred years. It records the Maori background, the European Settlement, the natural resources and the wild life of the territory in an absorbing, lively chronicle of provincial life from the 1860's to the present day. Lake, Land and people are vividly presented in this excellent biography of an attraqctive county'
