Bright Fine Gold: Stories of the New Zealand Goldfields
By William F. Heinz

Some struck it rich, others threw it all in and limped home, some drowned in treacherous rivers, a few were murdered, but for a few raucous years in Otago, the West Coast, Coromandel and, briefly, elsewhere, rough men dwelt in rough places that now – if they have survived at all - show only relics of a romantic history.

All this W. F. Heinz has captured in this collection of stories of the New Zealand goldfields. From his unique library of books on gold he has culled absorbing accounts of personalities and places, prospector-explorers, hazardous journeys, characters and crises, murderers, thieves and rogues, fun, food and fashion, and, a constant feature in life at the diggings, the folksongs of the old miners.

Contains some 136 photos, maps and line drawings
