Tom Masterson began working on the railways in 1925 on the West Coast of the South Island. He relates his experiences as he progressed through to being an engine driver. Stationed at various places around New Zealand the book gives an excellent coverage of the current locomotive types AB, WAB, Fell, G, X Class Compound, along with their unique characteristics and also unusual features of parts of the line. No to be missed are some of the characters that the author worked with or came in contact with. True history with nostalgia. A book you have got to have if you’re into trains.
