Description
"A Century of Style - Great Ships of the Union Line 1875 - 1976" by N. H. Brewer. Reed 1982 1st edition. Hardback, green cloth with gilt titles to spine, 238 pages, endpaper maps. Name to front endpaper otherwise no marks with contents all very clean and tight. Dust jacket has some fading to spine otherwise bright and clean. This volume examines the passenger ships that linked New Zealand with Australia, the Pacific Islands and, at times, North America for a century as well as NZ ports coast-wise. Many of the company"s ships were household names throughout NZ as they were often the mainstay of travel. Brewer has selected 37 ships for inclusion and the text for each is accompanied by a photograph and in some case several internal pictures or images related to the vessel. Each account describes the ship, its service with the company, details of incidents or interesting events in its career and its eventual fate. A fleet list of the company"s passenger ships (Appendix II) gives technical details and statistis. This 1982 Reed 1st edition is in excellent condition.
