The Children’s Crusade by Evelyn Everett-Green, pub Thomas Nelson & Sons, London. First pub. 1904. This edition undated. Presentation certificate for Sunday School attendance on flyleaf dated 1919. 368 pages. No dust jacket. Red illustrated cloth with gilt lettering on spine. 4 colour plate illustrations. Binding in reasonable condition. Clean pages with no noticeable markings or annotations. Moderate foxing and tanning to endpapers and page edges, black marks on bottom of middle pages. Slight wear to spine, edges and corners. The Children’s Crusade is an adventure story loosely based on a mixture of historical and fictional events. These included two marches of poor and/or children to Italy, each following charismatic and eloquent child leaders, supposedly believing such promises as the sea would open before them when they reached it, and that they would be able to peacefully convert Muslims to Christianity in the Holy Land, thus ending the Crusades.
