Brown cloth binding in fair to good condition. Wear and marks to front & back boards. Spine splitting Vol 1 & 3 (see pictures) Title page for each volume inscribed by ? Gidley (see pic for example). Some notations on FEP for each volume (pencil). Embossed name (barely noticable) on FFEP "St Bede's, Fremington, N. Devon". Hinge split Vol 3 but holding firm. Corners bumped. Binding tight and pages very clean with little or no foxing (the odd notation in neat small script on a few pages only).

Overall, this famous C19 history of the English is in good condition for age and can be difficult to procure as a complete set.
