Description
This book was first published in 1869.
This particular edition has no date on it. It was published by George Routledge and Sons
However, it has a handwritten note that could date back to 1895 . It goes :
1st Class Attendance Prize: Emily Moncrieff Standard IV South School Oumaru 18/12/95
Obviously it couldn't be 1995 as who would give this as a prize book in 1995?
It is very old- has marks, yellowish soem rust dotted pages , worn cover edges but binding is surprisingly intact for its age and so are its readable 306 pages
Synopsis:
"How dreadfully old I am getting! Sixteen!" So begins "Stepping Heavenward", the journal-like account of a 19th century girl who learns, on the path to womanhood, that true happiness can be found in giving oneself for others.
This book is so beloved that is still being published in modern editions to this day. It also continues to generate great reviews but nothing beats getting one of the early copies- this may even be a first edition for this particular publisher.
