Black and white and colour photos and illustrations

This work deals with the topographic anatomy of the equine tarsus and with the radiographic anatomy of its bones.

Although the large-scale mechanism of agriculture has replaced the tractive power of the horse, the diseases of this animal cannot be neglected by veterinary science. The health of horses still used in agriculture or in racing should be safe-guarded. In choosing a horse for a given purpose the state of the limbs should be investigated, the latent shortcomings and possible lesions detected.

The usefulness and the performance of a horse are largely determined by the state of health of its limbs. In the cases of diseases or lesions their timely detection and curing enhances the value of the animal. The author has made a detailed study of the regional and X-ray anatomy of the hock, the most complicated and functionally the most important part of the equine hindlimb.

The book is a synthesis of three studies: the regional anatomy of the tarsus, the descriptive anatomy of the bones and the radiographic anatomy of this complex part.
