This is a personal impressionistic story, I found myself becoming increasingly absorbed in the lives of individual women and the education which helped shape them, rather than in the formal history of a particular school. What has happened at New Plymouth Girls High School has happened to hundreds of thousands of NZ women. Yet this school helped shape particular attitudes and breathed particular aspirations into what seems to me to be an unusally high proportion of strong women. Chrisinte Cole-Cately
