Description
An impressive item . 360 mm across weighing in at just under 1.2 KG. . Hand beaten tray with the inner surface hand etched with designs of people , leaves etc. The design seems to show a couple receiving a book or scroll from the mouth of a large fish..but that may be my imagination working overtime. . The cast brass embellishments have been hand soldered on. The inner surface has been smoothed and polished but the back of the dish shows the hand beaten effects. May have been the top of a small table or may have been intended to be displayed on a stand. Would look great on the wall . This type of item was very popular in Victorian England where the gentry embraced all things oriental. The main period of popularity was from Circa 1870 through the the start of the !st World war. Hence a date of 1900 is about central . Not a lot had the extra cast brass embellishments though.
