Description: From the author's introduction: After many hundreds of guiding days and hundreds more on my own account I have come to some tentative conclusions about brown trout, but if anything I'm still just as confused now as I was when I caught my first one over 40 years ago. Sure, I've refined the process somewhat and I'm much better equipped in all sorts of ways to experience success. But there are times when all my thousands of hours of experience and memories of mistakes made and lessons learned or ignored still fail to bring a fish to the net on any given day. I once guided an American woman who can claim some responsibility for this book. Lisa was a delightful client - a rare beast in a largely male dominated environment as she had worked as a fishing guide herself before marrying one of her clients. Because she had guided many days herself on a particularly challenging spring creek in the US she was totally understanding when the going was tough. One day we were really struggling and I was coming up with a number of different possibilities to help explain why the dour browns were not on song when she turned and commented, 'Ya know something Graeme.
