The 1905 tour was remarkable. Of 32 matches played, 31 were won and the one that was lost, against the Welsh, has become the stuff of legend. The Originals scored a colossal 830 points and conceded only 39, including 205 tries while conceding only 7. They were also unbeaten in their four matches in North America.

The 1905 Originals set a standard that every New Zealand sporting team has since tried to emulate and their All Black nickname has well and truly stuck.

This edition is a direct reproduction, with original imperfections including occasional broken lines of type, from the team manager's personal copy, that is held in the rare book collection at Auckland Museum. The original publication though was produced in a much smaller format than this edition. Here, all the text and illustrations, including period advertisements, are reproduced nearly twice the size of the 1906 edition, enhancing both readability and charm.
