It can be difficult to find relevant Early Reading reinforcement activities.

These ‘Teaching Timesavers’ provide students with opportunities to practise their basic sight words at Magenta/Red Level. (Levels 1-5)

This resource, which will be emailed to you as a .pdf file, contains 24 A4 pages, each on one particular basic sight word.

(Kids love a bit of mystery, so the actual word is not written on the sheet, but they have to work out the word from the picture clues, before they can complete the Word-sheet.)

Each page follows the same format, so once students are introduced to the activity, they will be able to work on the other pages, independently.

• There are 20 Letter cards that have the lower case letter with a picture clue. (Only 20 - they don’t need all 26 when there are no words using x and q etc at this level.)

Each student needs access to a set of the letter cards to use the word-sheets. The letter cards can be photocopied so each student has their own set of cards, then they can make up the words to reinforce the learning of their sight words at any time. e.g. Buddy activity – one student reads a word from the list and another tries to make the word with the letter cards, with the picture clue to help them.

Each page has these 5 activities

1. Using the letter cards, make the word by matching the picture clues, to find the Mystery Word.
2. Write the Mystery Word in the word shape.
3. Read the word.
4. Find the letters in the Alphabet
5. Write the word a number of times.
