Writing prompts can be used as “Quick Writes” to warm up the class.

I have found that starting each day with timed Writing, does wonders for students writing skills. It’s a great way to get kids settled down and get their brains focused on learning and critical thinking.

(Younger kids love counting up the words, day by day, to see how their fluency is improving too.)

Regular writing does away with ‘I don’t know what to write about’, because if it happens every day you come prepared to write!

Younger students love to write about their personal experiences but as kids get older they are not so keen to repeatedly write about ‘Last night I…… They are capable of writing more in depth paragraphs, on a range of topics.

(Timed writing is in addition to the more Genre focused writing in my Written Language time.)
