Ernest William Christmas (1861-1918). oil on board.''Woman at Lakes edge.
Born in South Australia in 1861, Ernest Christmas studied in Adelaide, Sydney and in London. He painted widely in England, exhibiting with the Royal Academy. He moved to New Zealand, settling first in Wellington, then in Auckland, exhibiting his landscapes with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1905. He died in Honolulu in 1918, and his work is represented in major New Zealand collections, including the Turnbull and Hocken Libraries.
