They say that every picture tells a story; well boy, does this picture have a story!

It all started with good intentions …

I wanted to join in the fundraising for the SPCA’s Cupcake Day back in August. It was a highly co-ordinated effort; taking orders from everyone I knew, collecting cash, and arranging for various pick-ups and deliveries. It was all a little crazy, but in the end, I raised $850 for the SPCA by baking 20 batches of cupcakes, a truly awesome effort, I think!

Unfortunately I struck a bit of a hiccup as I set about baking my last 8 batches on a Sunday morning…

I was in full organisational mode, putting my production line into effect as I thought about all I had to get done that day. As I was mixing up my first batch, I smelt something more than a bit funny. Imagine my panic when I realised that I had left the cash I’d collected in the oven as a good hiding spot, the night before!!

By this time it was too late - not only had the money melted, but so had the plastic container it was in – all through my oven. What a mess! Hubby came to the rescue and managed to scrape all the plastic off the oven racks, and so all was not lost, with the great bake-off being able to continue once we had managed to get the smell out of the oven.

Fast forward to November, and over the last few months we’ve been liaising with the Reserve Bank to try and get the $350 replaced, but sadly most of it was unsalvageable, and they could only reimburse us with $85. It was better than nothing, but unfortunately we needed to replace $265 from our own funds, to make up the shortfall. Enter again my very clever and talented hubby, who suggested that he create an artwork out of shredded money. And so here it is – a truly original artwork, with a truly original story to match!

NB: Any amount over the $265 we’re trying to recoup will be donated back to the SPCA.
