Ovens cypress, also called ovensii, is the cypress of choice for woodlots and shelterbelts throughout most of New Zealand. Ovensii is a hybrid between Chamaecyparis nootkatensis and Cupressus lusitanica. It is a straight, fast growing, lightly branched tree with no fluting. It provides excellent, evergreen shelter when trimmed or high quality timber when grown in woodlots. It is resistant to cypress canker, a disease which can affect some Leyland varieties.

These plants grown from cuttings, have been topped at approx. 60cm in the nursery beds and are lifted from nursery beds for sale (bare-rooted plants).

Plant between 1.2 and 1.8 metres apart for shelter belts or 4m by 3m apart in woodlots. Good site preparation ensures the best start for the trees. Consider ripping and spraying before planting.
