Category change delayed: Boats & marine

Last week we announced some changes we're making to the Boats & marine category. Just a heads up to let you know that the change has been slightly delayed, and we're now aiming for the middle of next week.

During some testing we found a couple of things that still needed to be tweaked, so to be on the safe side we've allocated some more time to get them sorted.

Apologies if you had this penned in your diary, and we'll have the new category out on the open seas by next week.

Processing payments on Queen's Birthday

Queen's Birthday weekend is just around the corner, so we wanted to let you know there will be a delay with processing payments over the long weekend (did you know her birthday is actually in April?).

The banks are closed on public holidays, so if you use phone or internet banking to top up your Trade Me account there will be a delay in your payment reaching us.

If your payment is made after 8pm today, it will arrive in your Trade Me account on the morning of Wednesday 5 June.

Our apologies for any inconvenience, and have a jolly good long weekend.

Category change: Boats

Hi ho sailor, we’re back with more changes to the way we categorise items on Trade Me. There’s a plethora of items on the site at any one time, so it’s important that we have them sorted correctly.

Next week we’ll be making a number of changes to the Boats & marine category, to more accurately reflect the range of marine-related products available. We’ve added a number of new categories and have taken the opportunity to update some of the old category labels as well. We'll automatically move any listings in all categories that are affected into the most logical categories.

We’re aiming to make these changes next Thursday 6 June.

We’re all about making Trade Me a useful, enjoyable experience and there are more category improvements in the pipeline to help us achieve this. Keep an eye out for any changes that might affect you, and never fear - we’ll keep you abreast of the major changes via our Announcements page.

Update: Pay Now

We're updating the way Pay Now works to help speed up the transaction process for buyers and sellers.

What's happening?
The key change in this update is that buying and paying will now be a one-step process for buyers. They'll be required to provide delivery details as part of the purchase process. For sellers, it means they'll receive a payment confirmation and the buyer's delivery details all in one email.

Who will be affected?
Right now, this update will only apply to multiple-quantity listings (MQLs) that offer Pay Now as the only payment method. We've chosen these types of listings for the first Pay Now update as both buyers and sellers are keen to cut to the chase, confirm the purchase and complete a quick sale.

What's next?
We want to make sure we have everything working like a well-oiled machine before we roll out this Pay Now update across other listing types. We'll be rolling this update out further as soon as possible, and will announce this through our Community Announcements page.

For more details about this Pay Now update, you can head to the Pay Now update page in the Trade Me Help section.

Workchoice Day at Trade Me in Auckland

On Tuesday we welcomed a keen bunch of students to our Auckland-based office for Workchoice Day, organised by the Workchoice Trust. The aim of the trust is to equip school leavers with the tools to make an informed choice about their future.

Students from Auckland Girls' Grammar and Howick College spent the day listening, learning and asking heaps of questions about what we do and how we do it. Some of our team gave them the low-down on their personal journeys, and how they eventually landed here at Trade Me.

You can see photos of their time here by checking out our Trade Me Jobs Facebook page.

Next week our Wellington office are welcoming another bunch of hungry students from local schools. If you'd like to know more about Workchoice Day, check out their website.

Update: Qualifying for Pay Now

Good news - members with 10 feedback or more are now able to accept payment for sold items using Pay Now. Previously, you needed 50 or more feedback to use this service.

We’re keen for more sellers to experience the benefits of Pay Now, so we've reduced the required feedback rating for members to register. You’ll still need to be Address Verified and have a New Zealand bank account to use Pay Now. If you have any questions about this, drop our customer service team a line.

Trade Me Motors pricing has changed

We’ve made some changes to listing, success and promotional fees for selling vehicles on Trade Me. This includes cars, motorbikes, boats and other vehicles such as aircraft, buses, caravans & motorhomes, earthmoving machinery, horse floats, specialist cars, tractors, trailers, trucks and wrecked cars.

If you are selling a vehicle via a classified, the listing fee range has increased from the current fee range of $39-$59, to $39-$69. The listing fee depends on the asking price and pricing changes are as set out below:

- $39 for an asking price under $1,500 (was $39 for under $1,000 asking price)
- $59 for an asking price between $1,500-$10,000 (was $49 for $1,000-$10,000 asking price)
- $69 for an asking price above $10,000 (was $59 for over $10,000 asking price)

Please note that if the asking price is increased, this may increase your listing fee. There is no success fee for classified listings.

If you are selling a vehicle via auction, the success fee will still be charged based on 1.95% of the sale price (the maximum success fee has increased from $39 to $49). The listing fee remains at $39.

Fees for promotions have also changed as follows:

- Bold title, was $5, now $9
- Subtitle, was $5, now $9
- Highlight, was $10, now $9
- Feature, was $24, now $34
- Feature combo, was $29, now $39
- Super Feature, was $55, now $50
- Super Feature combo, was $79, now $89.
