Quad or Dual core Xeon's can be found on Trademe for lower prices and sometimes in higher quantity then there equivalent Core2Quads or Core2Duos, with many auctions starting at $1 reserve

A Quick internet tutorial search eg ' http://www.overclock.net/t/1431723/mod-lga775-support-for-lga771-xeon-cpus ' will provide plenty of info on how to carry out the mod and the list of compatible chip sets, but the basic steps are to (very) carefully cutting away the socket guides on your 775 motherboard, then applying the adapter sticker in the correct position and then installing the cpu in the correct orientation. An additional recommended step is to update your bios with the correct intel microcodes for it to correctly recognise the new CPU, you can do this yourself or find a prebuild bios online.
