The light box is powered by a circular fluorescent lamp. (not just a normal light bulb that only illuminates one area of the work surface). The entire work surface is illuminated on the SL17.
Lamp replacement is inexpensive and easy as these lamps are used extensively in home light fittings. (Usually around $10.00 at Bunnings)
The work surface is cast acrylic.This is very tough (17 times stronger than glass)making a very safe work area.
The light box comes complete and ready to use..just unwrap, plug in and enjoy!!!(assembly is not required)
