Description
Jewellery Making by Hamish Bowie
Jewellery making is as much a craft as an art - knowledge of simple processe and practical skill are necessary before the would-be designer can exercise his artistic talents. Appealing to the begjnner but taking him through to a fairly advanced level, this book covers these essential techniques from the basics of simple construction with a minimum of equipmert, through to more complex structures involving soldering and various methods of stone setting.
Clear step-by-step diagrams and specially taken photographs in colour and black and white - nearly 200 in all - make the text clear and easy to use, and illustrate skills as varied as the use of enamelling to give colour, casting techniques, engraving, carving, electroplating, acid and chemical treatment of various metals, use of plastics, plus practical hints on choice and care of equipment and ways of creating your own designs.
Based on the author's experience as artist-craftsman and teacher, the processes described here are suitable for a small home workshop. Many of the illustrations are of the authors own work, which he designs and sells, and others show pieces produced by his students at Birmingham Polytechnic where he lecture jewellery making and siiversmithing.
Hardback, 1976, 166pages, good condition, sun fading in cover
