These extraordinary speakers are now being made under license in NZ by Soul to Sole Audio.

The Bastanis Matterhorns are one of the range of models developed by the inspired Robert Bastani in Germany. His other models will be available eventually too.

These are very sensitive (100dB ) downward firing horn speakers with a specially treated 15 inch wide range driver and the beautiful Gemini dipole tweeter sitting atop the main cabinet. The Matterhorns are virtually crossoverless with a single resistor and capacitor in the wiring chain,

These are hugely dynamic and have a very "live" presentation. After living with them for a bit every other speaker sounds closed in and "hi fi" sounding. The midrange is very prominent and the bass is natural and flowing. It is never boomy, no matter the room, and has the real bass of a live performance. The tweeter is a joy and Six Moons reviewer said it was one of the two best he had ever heard!

The 100dB sensitivity means almost any amplifier will work. In Germany, Robert demoes them with a 3 watt EL84 single ended tube amp and 300B amps work well. They also sound fantastic with the very high quality Class A SUGDEN amps and can even handle 600 watts if called for!

They are very revealing so the better the source and amplification, the better your music.

The pair pictured is constructed from gloss black urethane painted 30mm mdf with a Heart Rimu-on-Birch Ply front panel, base and tweeter pod. Other veneers are available.

A recent purchaser is a professional violin maker (luthier) and one of his comments before confirming was "this is what violins REALLY sound like..."
